Explorer and MS-DOS prompt missing after using real-mode due to files removed.
Cause:
Real-mode removed the files in the 'Startup' folder when booting.
Solution:
Click 'Add' from the 'Start Menu Programs' tab in the 'Taskbar' dialog box.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Taskbar...'. (The 'Taskbar Properties' dialog box appears.)

3) Click the 'Start Menu Programs' tab.
4) Click 'Add...'. (The 'Create Shortcut' dialog box appears.)
5) Do one of the following:
a) For MS-DOS prompt icon, type the path of the program file in the 'Command line' box.
EXAMPLE 1: For MS-DOS prompt: C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\COMMAND.COM
EXAMPLE 2: For Windows Explorer: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE
b) Click 'Browse...'
c) Double-click the folder containing the program file.
d) Select the program executable file and click 'Open'. (The path of the program appears in the command line.)
6) Click 'Next' to display the 'Select Program Folder' dialog box.
7) Do one of the following:
a) Select an existing folder.
NOTE: Select the 'Start' menu folder to have the program in the 'Start' menu.
b) Create a new folder:
1] Position the cursor where the new folder is to be placed.
2] Click 'New Folder...'. (A new folder is inserted.)
3] Type a title for the new folder.
8) Click 'Next'.
9) Type a name for the program folder.
10) Click 'Finish' and click 'OK'.
